Catania

The senses tell the story of the Church of San Giuliano ai Crociferi

sight
The evocative panorama over the city

One of the best features of this church is undoubtedly its loggia dome.
From the cantoria, or chancel, once only accessible to the nuns, you can admire the impressive 360 degree panorama.
A magnificent view allows you to admire the former monastery and the historic centre of Catania in their entirety.

hearing
The songs of the Benedictine nuns

During the feast of St. Agatha, the statue of Catania’s patron saint would be carried in front of the church and left there for some time so that from above, behind the gratings, the devout Benedictine nuns could honour the Saint with singing and prayer.
Currently the rite continues at the church of San Benedetto (St. Benedict), the new home of the Benedictine nuns.
