Kings and prophets

The clipei of the choir’s four ogival arches feature images of angels, kings and prophets. Arranged in a crescendo, they tell the story of salvation along with the rest of the mosaic cycle. The first arch shows representations of the Archangel Michael and the Archangel Gabriel with the tondo of Divine Wisdom in the upper centre. In the intrados of the arch, there are depictions of Kings Obed, Jesse, Solomon, David and Rehoboam. In the central sub-arch, there are depictions of the king and priest Melchizedek, as well as the other patriarchs Noah and Enoch, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Judah. The other arch is decorated with the Annunciation and the next one is decorated with prophets Malachi and Isaiah. In the triumphal arch, which bears Christ Pantocrator in the centre, the mosaic cycle continues. Emmanuel is represented in the centre of the tondos with the eight prophets David, Solomon, Elijah, Samuel, Daniel, Gideon, Nathan and Elisha at the sides.
